If you aren't sure, you're definitely not alone! Skin types can be difficult to identify– since dryness, acne, and sensitivity are symptoms that everyone can experience from time to time. Knowing your skin type can be a huge advantage and money-saver, since knowing is crucial to selecting the correct skincare and makeup products for you.
To test what type of skin you have, remove your makeup and cleanse thoroughly. Pat your skin dry, and hold off on applying any skincare products. Wait for two hours, and go back to look at your skin in the mirror. Check out your skin texture, oil-production, and overall feel.
Dry: Your skin will feel a bit tight, dehydrated, dry, or flaky. Your skin craves oil and moisture.
Oily: You'll begin to notice oil production, especially in the T-zone. You may also have enlarged pores in the T-zone area, and are prone to acne and skin imperfections.
Normal: Your skin is fairly hydrated, but you may notice a small amount of oil production in the T-zone. There aren't dry patches or areas with enlarged pores.
Combo/Oily: You meet the conditions for normal skin, but sometimes your skin produces more oil. You may reach for blotting papers or a setting powder to keep your makeup fresh all day.
Combo/Dry: You meet the conditions for normal skin, but you sometimes see dry areas or need a hydration boost mid-week. Makeup that's overly mattifying or drying can accentuate those dry areas.
Sensitive: Your skin is normal, but can become irritated, inflamed, or painful when using some products. Fragrances, synthetic colorants, and harsh detergents are a no-go.
